Why is the same tin $18 in Detroit and $36 in Los Angeles?

The same brand at $25 for 100mg in Los Angeles leaves the store around $36, thirty-six cents per milligram. Three and a half times the price for the same gummy, purely as a function of which state's receipt it is printed on. Is the cheapest edible on the menu safe?
The honest answer has two halves. The reassuring half: everything on a licensed Michigan menu, including the $2 tins, passed the same state-mandated testing panel for potency and contaminants as the $22 tins, which is the entire point of buying licensed instead of gray-market. The uncomfortable half: $2 for 200mg is a liquidation price, a penny per milligram from brands with essentially no consumer-facing footprint, selling into a market where the wholesale tax and the oversupply crash are squeezing producers out. Our split-the-difference advice is the MKX tier: recognizable licensed producers at $5 to $6 per 200mg, where the discount comes from Michigan's market conditions rather than from a brand with nothing to lose. Nightly patient in an expensive market: whichever of Wyld, Wana, or the house value brand keeps the pre-tax price under $30 per 100mg, and consider the errand-run math of stocking two tins per trip.
